Matt's Background and History

Matt graduated from Alexandria's Jefferson High School in 2004, where he was a four-sport athlete, excelling in cross country, football, basketball, and track. Basketball was his true passion, beginning in first grade and continuing through traveling teams from fourth grade to his senior year. During elementary school, he was also part of the Alexandria Aces performance team. Matt was dedicated to personal wellness and fitness, engaging in weightlifting, competing in triathlons, and excelling academically.

Matt's professional career was in health and wellness. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2008. He went on to work for the Fargo YMCA and GNC Corporation.

Matt's life was guided by strong Christian faith, devotion to family and friends, and a commitment to respecting and prioritizing others. He was known for his kindness, honesty, strong work ethic, self-discipline, and sensitivity to others' feelings.

Tragically, after a three-year battle with chronic Lyme disease and depression, Matt took his own life in September 2016.
